Cloud First:  The path to joyn with Jibe

Jibe receives Silicon Valley Hottest Company Award from Lead411. This award is given to recognize the fastest growing technology companies in the region. “The 2013 list showcases companies with outstanding performance in their fields, who have all earned the right to be called a Silicon Valley Hot Company.” Tom Blue, CEO of Lead411 said in their press release.

In December 2012, Jibe announced $8.3M in funding from Vodafone, MTI and other investors to build the “Next Global Communications Network”.  And then in February 2013, Jibe announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain that MetroPCS selected Jibe’s Global Communication Cloud to ‘invite’ North America to joyn. Also in February, Jibe showcased a breakthrough 3D mobile multiplayer football game feature joyn-based live voice at GSMA Mobile World Congress 2013.

The Silicon Valley Hottest Company Award recognizes the fastest growing privately organization in the Software, Wireless, Hardware, Internet, or Media industry located in  Silicon Valley, California. Each winner must either have a 100% increase in revenues over the past two years or $5M plus in funding in the past two years.

Jibe made two big announcements at the show:

(2) We showcased the Jibe powered Unity 3D, football ‘soccer’ game developed by Thunderbull Entertainment – featured in the GSMA Pavilion.

NEWS: Jibe & Metro PCS

Jibe Mobile announced on February 26, that Metro PCS and Jibe have opened Rich Communications Service by ‘inviting’ North America to joyn.

MetroPCS Communications, Inc. (NYSE: PCS) and Jibe Mobile (www.jibemobile.com), the Silicon Valley cloud-based global communications provider, announced that Jibe’s Global Communications Cloud will enable MetroPCS subscribers to connect with friends and family across any network in North America using the unified and intuitive features of Rich Communication Services (RCS).

NEWS: First joyn-compatible 3D multiplayer ‘low latency’ game

Jibe Mobile announced on February 25, 2013, the demonstration of Football World Cup: Penalty Shootout Beta by Thunderbull Entertainment, the world’s first real-time (“low latency”), multiplayer 3D game with joyn (the consumer facing brand for Rich Communications)-compatible voice communications enabled for Android smartphones.

Jibe enables subscribers to invite contacts in their address books who are on any North American network to download a joyn™-compliant client onto their phone, tablet, or device and begin connecting with enriched services like Wi-Fi calling and video calling, enhanced instant messaging or chat and simplified content sharing. The downloadable client helps bridge the interoperability gap and address the fundamental challenge of mass adoption by enabling carriers that have yet to deploy RCS to offer joyn’s enriched features to their subscribers.

The game is featured for demonstration in the GSMA Pavilion (Congress Square CS80), where Jibe Mobile will be located.

Football World Cup: Penalty Shootout was developed by Thunderbull Entertainment, an independent game studio in Poland, in cooperation with Jibe. The Jibe Unity plug-in and platform enables developers to create “low latency” multiplayer gaming experiences and embed communications directly into the game for the highest level of consumer experience.

Congratulations to our partner Acme Packet that today announced they are being acquired by Oracle. This acquisition is further market validation of the future of the all-IP network, the foundational layer of Jibe’s Global Communications Cloud connecting mobile users throughout the world with “rich communication” business and consumer apps.

This year, Jibe is featured in the GSMA booth showcasing joyn solutions. We’re in the final stages of preparation – it’s super exciting for all departments here at Jibe as we get to demonstrate innovations we’re about to bring to market.

There has been a lot of advances towards the global rollout of joyn and Jibe’s carrier joyn products. And there has been tremendous interest in creating apps with Jibe’s SDKs – from games to enterprise apps.

The general consensus among those I spoke with was that, in the US, we are still between 18-36 months away from having any meaningful percentage of enabled devices in the market that could “talk” across carrier. Certainly no sense of any kind of “OTT ubiquitous base” anytime soon.
