IMS can do so much more
Your IMS network could be creating value for businesses other than your own, and capturing value for you in the process. All that investment seems wasted if all it delivers is a single communications experience on any one handset.
But opening your network presents risks and challenges. You don’t want to open up without retaining strict control over how it’s used. You don’t want to end up spending more money in managing 3rd parties than you make from enabling them.
And your network alone lacks the reach that app developers require. Large as your subscriber base might be, few developers can create viable propositions from platforms that can serve subscribers of only one mobile network. If you are to monetise your investment in IMS, it needs to be as part of a framework that provides universal reach.
Secure IMS access for app developers
Jibe’s App-to-App technology provides secure, controlled access to your IMS network for app developers. Our App-to-App application server is easily installed in your IMS network, and provides you with total control over and insight into all App-to-App traffic.
- Securely connected to Jibe’s Cloud to synchronize information about global application IDs and global white list/blacklist status.
- Additional local whitelist and blacklist for individual applications, users or services.
- Report on which users are consuming which services in which applications.
Only deal with the developers you want to
Developers access App-to-App capabilities through Jibe’s SDK and developer program. You, the carrier, don’t need to have a direct relationship with a developer unless you want to.
Developers register on Jibe’s website, download the SDK, and develop and test their apps using the tools we provide them. When they’re complete and approved, apps are published through regular channels. And when those apps are used by your subscribers, it’s no longer over-the-top traffic, it’s going ‘natively’ over your IMS network.
Interconnect with Jibe’s cloud for global service reach
App developers are not going to be interested in developing applications that can only reach your subscribers. But you may not be ready, willing or able to open your IMS network to subscribers of other networks. Interconnecting with Jibe’s global communications cloud enables global service reach while keeping your network controlled and secure.
Jibe’s cloud establishes a NNI exactly the same as any other IMS network. Our App-to-App server provides the oversight and control to ensure that only authorised applications connect to you network, and you know exactly what services they’ve used.
Case study: real-time multiplayer gaming
The potential applications for App-to-App are limitless. Developers will apply their creativity and may generate app ideas ranging from enterprise solutions to social and dating apps, from telemedicine to customer care.
But there’s one area where Jibe has already put its money where its mouth is and seeded a community of apps that really demonstrate the power of a great network: real-time multiplayer gaming. Jibe’s Arena service draws on the power of App-to-App to create real-time. head-to-head games including live in-game audio, video and chat. The low-latency game data travels over Jibe’s Cloud Network, or your IMS network for your subscribers. The ability to deliver high-performance, low-latency data is highly prized by games developers, and the networks with the best experience will build the best reputation and loyalty with their customers.
