We’re at CTIA next week in New Orleans. Good timing, as Jazz Fest has a big weekend planned for the CTIA early-birds. And then Jim Cramer will kick-off the show on Tuesday with the CEOs from ATT, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint onstage for a panel discussion.
During CTIA, stop by and see us in booth 4043 and booth 4322. We’ll be showcasing the Jibe App-to-App platform with our partners, Acision and Interop technologies. If you missed us in Spain at Mobile World Congress, stop by for a head-to-head matchup of Kodo or Air Hockey. Each winner will get a VIP invite for developer SDK access.

Our very own, Tim Schwerdtner, live from c-base in Berlin kicked off the Droidcon Hackathon by showing how you could take the peer to peer game Air Hockey and add voice right into the playing experience. So when you challenge your friend to Air Hockey on your mobile, you’ll be able to talk smack during game play. Pretty impressive.
If you didn’t make the hackathon, you can register for SDK access in our early access program at developer.jibemobile.com. Or if you know Tim, you can skip the entire line.

Congratulations to Spain, Hungary, and the USA on your game play. At Mobile World Congress in Spain, we had a daily Air Hockey Tournament at the Jibe Booth. Each daily winner had to win games against all challengers to receive a really awesome Xperia(TM) smartphone. Thank you Sony Ericsson for providing gaming phones to the Jibe Air Hockey Tournament winners.
We had many exciting matches throughout the week, and developers at the show were impressed by the fast action and low latency of the game. The Air Hockey app was developed by Entag/MTI built with the Jibe SDK.
The key features of the SDK that allows game play are (1) capabilities detection, (2) peer-to-peer data, and (3) app presence. App presence detects if your friends have the app, capabilities detection determines if your friends can play the game, and the optimized peer-to-peer data exchange keeps the two games super synchronized.

I spent a couple of days in Vegas to kick off 2012 starting with the AT&T Developer Conference and then CES. I make it a point each year to go a day early to participate in the AT&T Developer Conference to hear the announcements first hand but also see the carrier actually “pitch” their customer, the app developer.
This year’s highlights included a number of items but the topics were centered around:
It’s clear that developers are the clear path forward and APIs need to be made available to create new circles of innovation. I’ll be interested to see if the carriers do anything unique (APIs) to unleash advanced capabilities within the newly deployed LTE network. Is the formula still faster speeds + higher throughput = more data consumption as a path to additional carrier revenue?
Looking forward to an exciting 2012.

This year, we’re going to see the birth of a new class of connected apps. We’ve spent much of the last year building out our 3.0 platform and working with a select few rock star developers we invited to use our new SDKs. This year, we’re excited that those initial mobile apps will be released in the wild. And these new apps will pave the way for app to app communication and how an app should work going forward.
This new class of connected apps will allow friends to find other friends that have the app installed. You’ll know in advance what capabilities your friend has – Can he video? Can she chat? Even before you try to communicate. And finally these apps are live, instant and always connected with a heart-beat.
Connected apps will deliver more value for the user, this will produce more opportunity for developer revenue, and more differentiation in the marketplace. They’ll do this by bringing community into the app and real people interactions inside the app experience.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic 2012 and seeing this new class of connected apps communicate.
